Tips for surviving wedding stress

The days and weeks leading up to the happiest day of your life may also be filled with the most stress. But as you plan for your wedding, you may not always have time to relax your mind with quiet meditation.

The good news is that human clinical trials have shown Suntheanine, a purified form of the amino acid L-theanine, to promote an alert state of relaxation without drowsiness. When you are stressed, your breathing and heart rate increases and your blood pressure rises. This is not exactly the picture of a happy, relaxed bride-to-be! In a TV show segment which aired earlier this year, Dr. Oz’s on-air relaxation lab demonstrated that relaxation drinks helped to lower all of these measures. Dr. Oz explained that when you’re stressed or nervous, your mind may be racing making it difficult to focus.

A randomized, placebo-controlled study published in Psychological Anthropology in 2012 also suggested that L-theanine decreases anxiety and reduces rises in blood pressure that can accompany mental and emotional stress. Given this, L-theanine may be a good part of an overall wellness and heart disease prevention plan—particularly in people who are under increased mental and emotional stress.

In her newest blog, holistic pharmacist Sherry Torkos, author of The Canadian Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, includes Suntheanine in her list of seven natural ways to stay focused and in the moment so that you can enjoy your special day.
